EXTERIOR

Easy to manoeuvre
The Xc 38 is expected to become the most popular Xc model as it should appeal to the mature audience, who primarily want a luxury cruiser for themselves with a maximum of one extra couple along as guests. She will be extremely easy to manoeuvre under both sail and engine, and will of course incorporate all the best features and qualities of the larger Xc-models.

Hull
The hull shape will be similar to the other Xc’s with some minor modifications to the aft deck sections, which is slightly wider at the deck level to  accommodate the twin wheel steering. There are two recessed port-lights on each side, integrated dark grey waterlines, and a recessed decorative sheer stripe.

Cockpit
The helmsman enjoys high cockpit coamings for maximum comfort and safety, and twin wheel steering with minimum friction bearings to maximise feel. Liferaft storage is in the port cockpit locker, and the deep starboard locker can be reached via either the cockpit lid or the head compartment.

The cockpit table accommodates the yacht’s electronic navigaton systems, the compass and the autopilot controls, as well as a useful storage compartment. The two aft cockpit lockers have plenty of space for storing fenders, gas bottles, and the additional inventory required by the long-distance cruiser.

A spray hood dodger on stainless steel frames is fitted as standard or alternatively owners can opt for the curved glass windscreen seen on the other Xc yachts.

The clean, flush, teak deck hides recessed mainsheet channels to stainless steel self-tailing Andersen winches, allowing easy adjustment by the helmsman. The A-frame bow neatly supports the anchor, and by bringing the tack for the asymmetrical spinnaker forward, makes it far more stable and easy to use.

All halyards and control lines from the mast run below the teak coachroof, whilst flush deck hatches and chrome framed port-lights ensure maximum ventilation throughout the accommodation. The large stainless steel self-tailing genoa sheet winches, have the option of electric power.

Mast & Rig
The hard anodised aluminium mast and boom, with tapered mast head, and double spreaders is especially designed for the Xc 38. Discontinous rod rigging and a Navtec backstay adjuster are included in the standard specification.

Engine
A powerful 4 cylinder diesel engine pushing a folding 3 blade propeller, housed in a superbly sound insulated engine compartment.

Track for 140% overlapping furling Genoa.
Anchor locker with space for 50 m anchor chain.
Optional A-frame with teak planking.

INTERIOR

Accommodation

The Xc 38 has an interior constructed from Mahogany. The joinery is hand polished and varnished to a satin finish, and the main bulkhead features a recessed panel effect.

The accommodation layout is ideal for two couples, with two large sleeping cabins, and a large head/shower compartment. The galley is located to port and offers ample storage for both refrigerated and dry food. Throughout the vessel you’ll find opening portlights, and flush hatches with Oceanair blinds and flyscreens. The aft bathroom is spacious; there is room for a washing machine (optional) and there is access to the cavernous starboard cockpit locker.

efficient cabling and reduced transmission losses. All cabling terminates in a "dry" GRP box fitted behind
the main electrical panel in the saloon for added safety. Piping for all the water systems on board run in
dedicated service trays and channels.

The optional heating system is mounted aft, near the transom and dedicated piping runs throughout the entire yacht.

The steering system has two independent quadrants for added safety.
An autopilot has a direct link to the rudder stock.

Sailplan

Hydraulic backstay
Selftailing winches

The Xc 38 sail plan has been developed with long distance cruising in mind. Safe and enjoyable ocean passage requires a sail plan that can be easily adjusted by her crew.

The large fully battened mainsail will drive her along nicely in moderate conditions but can be quickly reducing using the single line reefing system. The 106% genoa also battens to improve performance, but is easily furled using a line that is feed under the deck back into the cockpit.

The optional A frame bow fitting enables an asymetric spinnaker to be flown forward of the genoa, improving stability and ease of use.
